Text Box: Now if God had stopped there Aaron would have found himself designated as God’s treasurer, His asset manager. However, God did not stop there. God further stated that He gave to Aaron and his sons the offerings, as their portion and regular share. In other words Aaron and his sons were to move from being managers in charge, to possessors and owners of the offerings given to God.
God constantly models for us what His desire is for us. There is no command that He gives that He is not willing to live with Himself. The model from God here is not about the practice of tithing but rather His purpose in tithing.
God did not designate a tithe of the offerings He receives to be given to Aaron and his sons. Instead of giving a tenth, He gave it all. Isn’t it incredible that God would ask us to give a tenth, yet He is willing to give one hundred percent! Levitical supply begins with God giving away all that was given to Him!

To be continued…
Text Box: Then the LORD said to Aaron, "I myself have put you in charge of the offerings presented to me; all the holy offerings the Israelites give me I give to you and your sons as your portion and regular share.
Numbers 18:8

In the Bible are very specific instructions regarding the roles of the Levites, those from the tribe of Levi, and Aaron and his sons. The Levites were to be the tribe with the sole purpose to serve the Lord. They were to maintain the sanctuary and perform the daily services. They were not to hold any other occupation or duties. They were not to be landowners (originally) or to be merchants of any kind.
Aaron was the brother of Moses, whom the Lord chose to be Moses’ helper and later as the first priest. God considered Aaron to be set apart for complete service to Him. Aaron was to act as the representative of the people before God, particularly in the highest and holiest of holidays, festivals, and feasts. Aaron, and later his sons, was to have no other employment or vocation.

Text Box: This left one specific family and one entire tribe of the nation of Israel to be totally devoted in service to the Lord. Every day of their lives was to be spent in service to Him. That also meant that these devoted ones were not part of the ‘normal’ economic system. They did not have income producing vocations. Their sole means of support was God and Him alone.
Many people have a perception about God and/or the church that the only concern is about getting their money away from them. Further, this perception leads to the thinking that money and the acquisition of wealth is the aim of all things religious, at least in the Western world.
Those who hold to this perception have never recognized or understood God’s true purposes concerning tithing. They have overlooked or never seen God’s directive found in Numbers 18:8 where God Himself gives away the tithe that is given to Him. He tells Aaron that he is to take charge of the offerings.

Part I

 by Pastor Dave Bassett

The past year has been an awesome year!  The Lord has done many great and marvelous things in our lives.  We have learned many things that we will be using in our next assignment.

Pastor Dave and I have accepted a church in Layton, Utah.  We will be serving as the pastor of this small, but growing church.  We truly feel this is what the Lord has been preparing us for during this last year.  We are excited to see what the Lord has in store for Rosewood Lane Church of the Nazarene in the coming months and years.

We met the people and got to know a little about them when we visited on July 8th, and they are truly great people in the Lord.  We have met a few more of the people this week as we have driven to Layton with a van-load of boxes to start our move.

We would like to thank the people of the Rosewood Lane church for all the work they have done on the parsonage, for stocking our shelves with food, and for the great ribs that we had for dinner!  You guys (& gals) are awesome!

Note our new address in the info to the left.  Come visit us!  We are not totally moved in, but we will be very soon!
