Text Box: I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances…
Philippians 4:11
Then I began to realize that I was actually becoming accustomed to what I dreaded. It wasn’t that I had intentionally tried to adapt to the colder weather. I simply had adapted.
Jesus promises to never leave us or forsake us. No matter where or in what circumstances we may find ourselves, He will be there with us providing for all of our needs. The challenge for us to learn, as Paul shared with the Christians of Philippi, was that we can be content whatever our circumstances if we put our trust in the Lord.
What uncomfortable things are you experiencing in your life right now? God has never promised to make you comfortable. He has promised to never leave you. As you learn to trust Him and to walk in His presence, you will find yourself content, even if you are not comfortable. Notice that even for the Apostle Paul this was something that was learned.
Commit yourself to learning about contentment and find your life more empowered for the most difficult of times. God bless you as you pursue the knowledge of Him!
Text Box: When Judy and I moved to Nampa, Idaho nineteen months ago it was a huge change in climate for us. Judy had never lived anywhere else in her life outside of Southern California. The four seasons in Southern California consist of the fire season, the rain season (this was usually about four days long), the mudslide season, and well, the other 300 days of the year.
My family moved from Maryland to Southern California in 1979. That was the year I lived through the great blizzard of Boston and realized that I really, really did not like lots of snow and lots of cold. When the opportunity to move with my family to Southern California presented itself, I saw it mostly as a choice between sunny beaches and huge snowdrifts.
At the time we moved to Nampa, Judy and I had this certainty that God was leading us there, just no idea why. When last winter hit in Nampa we saw the temperature drop and a couple of light powderings of snow. At that point I was thinking to myself that this was not as bad as I remembered winter to be, but I still preferred the Southern California sun, at least when you could see it about midday after the offshore haze burned off.
After a brief twelve months in Nampa, the Lord led us next to Layton, Utah. When we first got here I frequently asked question about what I could expect the weather to be like in winter.

Text Box: The answers ranged from it being the same as it was in Nampa, to something about only one substantial snowfall a year. After many feet of snowfall this winter the answers have turned to comments suggesting that this winter is not a typical winter. Yeah, right!
A couple of weeks ago we had a very sunny day and despite the several feet of snow that almost covered over my mailbox along the street, it seemed as if the weather was improving. I decided to go out to the mailbox to retrieve the mail. Once I got back into the house I realized that I had not put on my winter coat, scarf, gloves, and knit cap before going outside. However, the weather had not seemed cold to me, so I thought that surely we were seeing a definite warming trend leading to my much prayed for spring weather.
It is funny how our minds can work on us, especially as we get older. I began to wonder just how warm it had gotten. So I went the computer thinking that it must be nearly fifty degrees, since I had been comfortable without the jacket and other paraphernalia that I usually wore to keep from freezing. To my shock and dismay I found out the temperature was actually twenty-five degrees.
