This picture is without beauty, eternal beauty, if you do not accept my love. This is how I can say that we can put this picture puzzle together.”
“I know that this is what I want for my life. Though I feel weak and insignificant, completely incapable of attaining for my life this beautiful picture you have given me,” the man said. “I am confident that with your love all things are possible.”
“I want this picture to be my life. I want my life to be an offering to you, one of love and great beauty. Help me to accomplish this with my life,” the man said.
“My part is already done,” said God. “You only need to accept my Son into your life each and every day. No one day is less significant that another. I promise you, that I will love you with my utmost each and every day.”
With that, the man went about putting together that picture puzzle until it was complete.
The man paused to consider the implications of God’s faith in him. He thought, “How could it be that the maker of the universe would place Himself in a position to need me? Was this a mistake? I just don’t understand how it could be a part of an intentional plan.”
God, reading the man’s mind, spoke, “Do you doubt my love for you? Don’t you remember the words of my Son?”
Love was the word that got the man’s attention. “No, I do not doubt your love for me. Your Son confirmed that when He said that you loved the world so much that you gave Him as our sacrifice, so that we could be saved from our sins, and receive eternal life.”
“What does eternal life mean to you,” God asked the man.
Without thinking much the man replied, “Eternal life means never having to die. That our soul lives on after this body dies.”
“Technically you are correct,” said God as His eyebrows raised. Leaning towards the man He continued. “But it means something so much more. Eternal life means that you will be with me in my heaven forever. It means that we can have unbroken relationship with one another, with nothing hindering or coming between us for all of eternity.”
This startled the man. “You would want to be with me for all of eternity? But why? Who am I that you would want that?”
“This surprises you because you are not aware of the depth of the love I have for you,” said God. Placing His right arm around the man’s shoulder and pointing with His left forefinger, God continued. “This picture of your life contains the beauty of the love I have for you. It is a pure love that is never ending. It is a love that is patient, kind, gentle, not self-seeking, the kind of love that your heart desires most of all.

Communication With God
by Judy Bassett
Isn’t it interesting that sometimes when we mean to say something, we say just the opposite? I was just asking someone (via e-mail) about a product I am looking for. They replied to my e-mail to let me know that they do not use the product, but gave me a lead to another place I might find information on it. The problem is that they left out the word “not”. So the e-mail appeared to be saying that they do use the product.
God never leaves out words! Aren’t you glad—I sure am. I may say one thing and mean another, but He doesn’t. Never! Ever!
Sometimes we may not understand completely, but it isn’t because God has miscommunicated.
It may be that we are not in a place in our spiritual life, that we completely understand what God is trying to communicate to us. It may be that God is trying to communicate to us that He is not going to fully answer our question—our prayer—immediately, but that we must wait. This is an answer that we don’t really like to hear.
No matter what God is trying to communicate to me, I want to be open and waiting for that communication. I want to be close enough to hear Him clearly, understand and act upon that communication!
