Building God’s Kingdom Together, Inc.
God’s standard for work is not mediocrity or work for work’s sake. Look around at this world, the result of His work. It is an amazing thing, this creation of His. Everything is intricately woven together. Nothing is wasted or unnecessary. And it is full of beauty and a reflection of His glory!
Our work should be a reflection of His standards. It should be our very best. While it may be difficult to find value in everything that your work requires of you never let that perception of value diminish your efforts. When your work is broken down into its various tasks any one task may have the appearance of insignificance. Yet, when viewed from the whole it is important and vital.
What if you embraced the perspective that your work is a reflection of God’s Kingdom for others to see? What type of quality would you strive for?
While knowledge is powerful, knowledge alone will not be enough to accomplish faithful stewardship. It also takes effort to put into practice what you have learned.
If you have the Kingdom perspective in your life than having the quality of your work being ‘just good enough’ is not acceptable. You need to resist the temptation to just be good enough. There is no room in God’s Kingdom for mediocrity or marginal success.
God’s standard is to bless every servant in His Kingdom. His blessings are not marginal or “just enough”. His blessings are overflowing and abundant.
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
2 Corinthians 9:6
A large part of the sowing that a Kingdom servant does is in his work. When you consider the amount of time we invest in our work it is easy to see the major role it plays in God’s plan for us. Compare that to the time we spend in church or church activities. If we are good churchman and lousy, or even marginal, workers we have not succeeded in meeting the standards of the Kingdom. If we sow sparingly at our work there will be very little if any to reap from it.
God’s motivation to bless you is His great love for you, but that is not His purpose in blessing you. His purpose in blessing you is so that you, as a Kingdom servant, can be His blessing to others. God’s math is always multiplicative. He blesses you not to add to your life but that so through you the Kingdom might be multiplied. And God is shrewd enough to invest His blessings where they will multiply.
